If you could change one thing to improve student learning on the LSUA campus, what would it be?
#Response DateResponse Text
Apr 19, 2013 7:26 AMoffer more courses as a backup for a certain course that a student may have troule grasping
Apr 17, 2013 3:04 PMMore time with instructor to student learning.
Apr 16, 2013 8:11 PMMore areas for parents and their kids and more online resources available.
Apr 16, 2013 2:54 PMIncrease teaching faculty (should the budget ever allow it).
Apr 16, 2013 12:19 PMProvide courses every semester. Also SI sessions for more sources.
Apr 16, 2013 11:54 AMEncourage LSUA to be a more "student friendly" campus
Apr 16, 2013 11:17 AMPersonaly I do not have problems learning but I have noticed that smaller classes improve the interest of the students on the teacher.
Apr 16, 2013 8:48 AMIf I could change one thing to improve student learning on the LSUA campus, it would be the contact with teachers and students. For those students who take dual enrollment courses or other online classes occasionally have trouble speak to their instructors because they are unable to contact them.
Apr 15, 2013 9:35 PMI would like to see some more teacher involvement with students. I feel like that only my education teachers, which is my major, really try to help me and all others could care less whether i pass or fail. i also think all teachers should be required to post grades and certain things on moodle because some dont use it at all where as some use it for everything.
Apr 15, 2013 6:00 PMThat the kinesiology class for lsua teachers would be on the actual campus and not have to drive over to it yourself!
Apr 15, 2013 2:37 PMI can't think of anything in particular
Apr 15, 2013 1:09 PMI am not knowledgeable on the subject, I wish I was.
Apr 15, 2013 11:48 AMMake the use of technology in the classroom more profound and make some classes more hands on.
Apr 14, 2013 8:46 AMHaving lab is very helpful, but sometimes lab is only held on days that some students are not and cannot be at school because they also have to work. Maybe making these labs available online and or more frequently could positively impact student learning.
Apr 10, 2013 9:09 PMA better system of learning in the sense of teachers helping students with projects and becoming more of a mentor instead of a professional relationship which inquires no care for the student and their ability to get through a four year degree to better and up the LSUA's graduation rate instead of students having to stay longer in school than they should.
Apr 8, 2013 11:27 AMHow the school attains money from LSU in Baton Rouge. The allocation of funds from "big brother" are terrible. It seems that when the state cuts education, LSU robs from us, so they don't have to lose anything. Instead, if there are to be any cuts, each school in the LSU system should lose a percentage accordingly. In this way, no just the "satellite" schools lose money, but we all share in hefting the load. I once heard that few burdens are heavy when everyone lifts. It's time for LSU to change it's attitude about the "inferior" schools.
Apr 3, 2013 8:49 PMWorkshops and seminars from business leaders and community business. This would allow students to gain knowledge in their field of study to be better prepared for entry into workforce and allow students who are not sure of their future to understand and research different job opportunities and careers.
Mar 27, 2013 4:35 PMOffer a degree in Social Work and more variety of classes at night time.
Mar 27, 2013 1:30 PMIf there was one thing i could do to improve student learning it would be to get them involved with related topics or find a way to increases the interest of the course(s) by approaching the material with a more "hands on" approach.
Mar 26, 2013 3:06 PMDo not allow students to vote on tuition/fee increases unless they are actually paying for their college. I am referring to the recent vote for fee increases to support an expanded athletics program. I have no opinion on the merits of expanding the athletics at such a small college, as I have not read any data that suggests that it will greatly grow or improve the school. However, I am paying for my college through a combination of personal funds and loans. Therefore I strongly object to an open vote by students to increase my overall expense. The arguments that I have heard so far are insufficient. This vote makes me feel penalized with an additional fee for something I have no involvement in. This is akin to the recent property tax that passed for the Rapides Parish Coliseum, in which non-property owners were able to vote to increase my tax burden just because I own property, in order to support something I have no involvement in. This is a ridiculous idea, and I still find it hard to believe that a school of higher learning would allow an 18 year old student on scholarship or financial aid, to be able to forever impact the overall expense of every college student that attends LSUA. I was very disappointed by this. Almost as disappointed as seeing the number of people that actually voted.
Mar 26, 2013 2:25 PMI wish there was more support for the school to grow and I wish our budget was larger- but don't we all
Mar 26, 2013 8:53 AMNot sure
Mar 26, 2013 7:20 AMI'm not sure do to the fact that I am a new student.
Mar 26, 2013 6:09 AMMake it more easier for student's to get help from the (Professors) and not former student tutors, whom are very unreliable. Have a more pleasurable experience with various offices at the university...
Mar 25, 2013 10:13 PMmore activities in class
Mar 25, 2013 6:25 PMNo comment
Mar 25, 2013 2:22 PMHire more instructors to offer a wider range of topics.
Mar 25, 2013 9:16 AMBetter test prep. Help with learning how to better test.
Mar 25, 2013 9:02 AMincrease online classes
Mar 25, 2013 8:54 AMI would have each professor meet with the Chancellor each semester personally to discuss their results on their evaluations from students. Many teachers are guilty of committing the same behaviors every semester, regardless of how it affect their students' learning. I'd also make changes to the organization of the Financial aid office and Admission office.
Mar 25, 2013 8:30 AMHave more different times choices for classroom schedules.
Mar 25, 2013 8:27 AMoffer supplemental courses that can be substituted for a course for your particular degree of study
Mar 25, 2013 7:58 AMAdd more computers that work
Mar 25, 2013 7:52 AMI would post all tutoring schedules and writing center times more. Maybe a link to all of the available help on my lsua page?
Mar 25, 2013 7:47 AMMore hands on with learning. I am a visual learner, so reading books and just reading powerpoints are not as effective as actual examples.
Mar 25, 2013 7:43 AMMore classes offered more frequently!!!
Mar 25, 2013 7:38 AMI would change the fact that people are so negative on campus and rude to the students. Let me clue you in on a little secrete, if you don't have students then you dont have a job. The rudeness keeps driving people away and not wanting to put in an effort in classes. Keep driving students away and you want have anyone to teach in class and then you want have a job. Student's that pay to come to this school is the reason why every staf member has a job and the campus can stay open.
Mar 25, 2013 7:33 AMI would ensure that there is adequate parking at LSUA,
Mar 25, 2013 7:24 AMNothing
Mar 25, 2013 7:14 AMoffer more classes or tutors
Mar 25, 2013 7:00 AMOffer more degree programs and classes.
Mar 25, 2013 6:58 AMI would change the isolation between teachers and students!
Mar 23, 2013 10:36 PMNot let athletics get away with any and everything because they are in sports.
Mar 22, 2013 3:07 PMimplement a system whereby a student who had an issue with an instructor could voice their concerns in a manner other than addressing the department head directly. I tried that twice to no avail and something other than the surveys. One of the instructors said that they read the comments and didnt and wouldnt ever change or adapt and adjust their methods regardless of whatever was ever written on one!
Mar 22, 2013 9:42 AMMore technology friendly resources
Mar 22, 2013 7:14 AMHave their be more opportunities where the students can get engaged with the subject they are talking about. Maybe have there be a thought about making a fund specifically for classes to go on field trips so they can apply what they have learned.
Mar 22, 2013 4:23 AMgoing back to a 10 point grading scale
Mar 21, 2013 8:35 PMMore online and night classes for students that work during the day.
Mar 21, 2013 7:44 PMOffer more classes!! At night or online...
Mar 21, 2013 7:19 PMHaving the library open 24/7.
Mar 21, 2013 6:22 PMI would add more majors to the curriculum to bring in more students from more diverse backgrounds and areas than are currently present on campus.
Mar 21, 2013 5:21 PMnothing
Mar 21, 2013 4:17 PMHire Professors that know how to teach.
Mar 21, 2013 3:03 PMMore on-line classes and more available help from professors at night when it is needed.
Mar 21, 2013 2:36 PMI think if #6 was addressed it would definitely improve student learning.
Mar 21, 2013 2:23 PMorganization of the college as a whole
Mar 21, 2013 2:01 PMA campus wide learning model embraced by an engaged faculty...
Mar 21, 2013 1:16 PMMore online courses
Mar 21, 2013 12:43 PMAdd more classes to each semester.
Mar 21, 2013 12:41 PMTo cancel the new smoking policy.
Mar 21, 2013 11:52 AMMore degrees. That's it.
Mar 21, 2013 11:41 AMn/a
Mar 21, 2013 11:38 AMAdd more majors.
Mar 21, 2013 11:26 AMIt would be less online classes and more classes for summer, although I do understand with the budget cuts, this make it impossible.
Mar 21, 2013 11:20 AMI wish that Avoylles Hall had a better studying area aside from the computer lab, because the lab is often used for courses. With the lab being utilized students are made to sit in the hallway, because classroom does remained locked unless a class is in session.
Mar 21, 2013 10:44 AMHANDS-ON ACTIVITIES.. TO GET INVOLVED.
Mar 21, 2013 10:43 AMI think that we need to refine our degree programs. A lot of students are struggling with not being able to keep the major that they started with because their classes they need to graduate are no longer being offered. Therefore, they are having to change their majors and start somewhere different. Because of this process, some of us are having to stay in school longer, or transfer somewhere else that is offering what we originally started out for. If we have a program, we need to stick to it and make it last. We keep loosing students to other schools because we continuously change the programs and keep dropping classes that students need. I have now been at LSUA for 7 years because of this situation. My major was transformed and my concentration, dropped. So I had a choice to either go somewhere that was teaching it or stay here and change my major so I could finish. Now I cannot wait to graduate with SOMETHING so that I can move on, go to grad school, and get a degree in what I originally wanted.
Mar 21, 2013 10:41 AMI would get rid of the sports and increase focus on math and sciences.
Mar 21, 2013 10:31 AMN/A
Mar 21, 2013 10:18 AMPut laptop connections at every desk and make every classroom a "SmartRoom"
Mar 21, 2013 9:34 AMThese questions seem to repetitive, but I'd hire more professors.
Mar 21, 2013 9:21 AMUtilize a space perhaps close to campus security where students can have 24 hour access to computers, copiers, printers and other vital office equipment that a student may need to complete projects.
Mar 21, 2013 9:14 AMMore funding!!!
Mar 21, 2013 8:45 AMHire more teachers and fix broken computers. Also give students access to Microsoft at home. Lsu gives their student free Microsoft. Why can't we
Mar 21, 2013 8:23 AMThe one thing that I would change is to have Tutoring sessions at various times, and to have a tutor that loves what they teach.
Mar 21, 2013 7:23 AMI'm not sure what could be done to improve learning (student motivation?)
Mar 20, 2013 5:49 PMMore times for some classes
Mar 19, 2013 5:44 PMLarger variety of internet courses
Mar 18, 2013 9:17 PMThe only changes that come to mind are specifically related to the nursing program which seems to have it's own set of rules.
Mar 18, 2013 7:43 PMbetter tutors and another quiet place besides the library for studies
Mar 18, 2013 1:20 PMFor every night class offered, there should be a day alternative. Some classes are only offered at night. That's not always easy to work around, especially if you have to have it.
Mar 18, 2013 12:36 PMnothing!
Mar 18, 2013 12:28 PMMore actives, and a library upgrade.
Mar 18, 2013 11:26 AMMore hands on learning opportunities! Especially in math!
Mar 18, 2013 9:16 AMI would change the hours of SI and tutoring, because some people have classes or have work whenever the SI is doing class.
Mar 17, 2013 8:07 PMExpansion of services offered through the tutoring center and library. The tutoring center could have some aspects that are online such as paper revisions.
Mar 16, 2013 9:51 AMThere are two things that are equally important to me to improve student learning on campus: (1) offer core courses every semester (Fall, Spring and at least 1 section in the Summer); and, (2) increase monetary support to the departments to allow for more course offerings and better supplies and instructional materials.
Mar 15, 2013 7:35 AMNo a and b term classes to much material for to little time
Mar 13, 2013 2:08 PMMore places to sit and study on campus
Mar 12, 2013 2:23 PMRestore the theatre major and strengthen the role of Director of Theatre.
Mar 12, 2013 2:01 PMHappy staffs, happy students, happy professors. Give us a raise and get the financial aid to student as quickly as possible without all the red tape. Do not raise tuition cost and stop the budget cuts to univerisities and colleges in Louisiana. The moral is low and it shows. Disgruntle employees and unhappy students because of tuition increase and a lack of pay raises in 4 years to faculty and staff.
